The Iron Boomerang

Client: Monash University
Team: Victoria Merrett, An Thai
Year: 2015

This pivotal site is located in the centre of Australia at the direct intersection between the existing Ghan railway and the proposed Iron Boomerang. We have identified this site as a point of conflict, as currently the surrounding area consists of very small remote Indigenous communities with populations ranging from 50 to 1000. With the introduction of the Iron Boomerang, the influx of new industries and people will put pressure on this intersection.

The Iron Boomerang will initially be seen as a threat to Indigenous communities. Our proposal aims to provide the best outcome for the traditional owners of the land whilst seizing the opportunity to connect two cultures. Our vision is to create a pivotal point along the transect which both mediates and balances varying forces and cultures.
